About Initiation

For generations, Kriya teachings have been handed down through an unbroken lineage of God-realized masters, which began in 1861 with Mahavatar Babaji when he re-introduced Kriya Yoga to modern times through his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya.

Initiation is a sacred purification and blessing ceremony that can only be performed by a Realised Yogi. In order to practice authentic Kriya Yoga one must first receive Initiation and learn the Kriya Yoga technique from an authentic Kriya Yoga teacher.

During Initiation, the spine and chakras of the Kriya Yoga student are purified by the teacher. Paramahamsa Prajnanananda or one of his appointed teachers will personally conduct all Initiations and give instructions on the Kriya Yoga technique.

Please note, the program is offered free.
However, it is traditional to offer a 'Dakshina' to the Guru of $150
which goes directly to the Prajnana Mission charitable activities in India.

About Kriya Yoga

Kriya Yoga is an ancient and powerful system of meditation, which promises perfect health, peace of mind and a stress-free life. The people of India have practiced it for many centuries under the guidance of trained teachers.

Kriya Yoga approaches the study of the Self with a sense of reflection and introspection so that the spiritual traveler may understand the conditions of his / her mind. The ever-changing mind is the biggest barrier to calmness and self-realization.

For generations, Kriya teachings have been handed down through an unbroken lineage of God-realized masters, which began in 1861 with Mahavatar Babaji when he re-introduced Kriya Yoga to modern times through his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya.

The Meaning of Kriya

The word Yoga comes from the root yuj. It has 32 meanings in Sanskrit, but the most appropriate here is to unite. The union of the individual Self with the Cosmic Self, the child of God with God, the Father. Therefore, the body with the Soul is Yoga.

Kriya Yoga is a supreme science of Self-realisation. It is a scientific technique of action with constant God-consciousness, which ultimately leads to realisation - going beyond the body, mind, intellect, thought, and even the world, to Soul-consciousness.

To perceive the Soul in every breath, in every moment, in every action, in everything and every being is Kriya Yoga. By the practice of Kriya Yoga meditation, one aspires to lead a life of divine consciousness, which ultimately brings love, purity and joy.

Kriya Yoga Association of New Zealand

The aim and objective of the Kriya Yoga Association of New Zealand (KYANZ) is to promote the authentic original Kriya Yoga as taught by Babaji Nagaraj, Paramahamsa Yogananda, Paramahamsa Hariharananda and the current head of the Kriya Yoga Institute Paramahamsa Prajnanananda.

Kriya Yoga is an ancient system of meditative yoga revived in modern times by the great avatar Babaji Nagaraj through his disciple Lahiri Mayasaya, c 1861, and brought into popular awareness through Paramahansa Yogananda's book 'Autobiography of a Yogi'.

Kriya Yoga consists of a number of levels of pranayama (breath control), yogic postures and bhandas (locks) which are intended to rapidly accelerate spiritual development and engender a profound state of tranquility and God-communion.

Kriya Yoga ultimately leads to realisation - going beyond the body, mind, intellect, thought, and even the world, to Soul-consciousness. By the practice of Kriya Yoga meditation, one aspires to lead a life of divine consciousness, which ultimately brings love, purity and joy.
